Christmas Greetings from the Number Station

Seasons greetings, Ho-Ho-Holiday, Spies & Shadows TV

WHEREVER YOU ARE, IN THE UK OR FURTHER AFIELD, HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS.

AND IN TRUE SPIES & SHADOWS STYLE, HERE’S A LITTLE CHRISTMAS DITTY FOR YOU…

Our regular podcast listeners will be familiar with the rather strange, if not outright surreal ‘music’ that graces the beginning and end of each show.

They are recordings from what is known in the spy world as number stations: short coded messages sent by spies around the world using short wave radio.

If the code is unbroken these messages are 100% secret and due to their short transmission length they are very hard to trace. For years short wave radio enthusiasts have listened out for and recorded these supposed “one way” transmissions.

The recordings we use in our show were kindly given to us by Simon Mason who has collected shortwave coded broadcasts over the years. You can hear his number station recording collection and find out more about them here: http://www.simonmason.karoo.net/page30.html

A special thank you also goes out to Andrew Bird who sent us our Christmas number station broadcast: www.andrewbirdmusic.co.uk

PODCASTS & POSTINGS OVER THE HOLIDAYS
The next Sunday Spy Show will be on Sunday 10th January 2016.
But if you’re pining for the fjords (old Monty Python joke there, involving a parrot) more content then do keep a look out. There’s only so much abysmal holiday TV that one can endure. So, there’s a reasonable chance some more content will appear. Perhaps a wee review here and there or more opinions offered.

Of course, the best way to stay in the loop is to register for updates and the new monthly e-newsletter starting in January. It’s all free and your details don’t get passed on to any unscrupulous third parties.

So from both podcast protagonists, we wish you a great Christmas. And if you haven’t managed to be good all year, then we hope at the very least you were naughty with style and panache!
Brian and Chris
